What Can Delay Your Refund?
- PATH Act: Returns with EITC or ACTC are held until mid-February
- Errors: Incorrect SSN, math errors, or missing forms
- Identity verification: IRS may send Letter 5071C requiring online verification
- Amended returns: Form 1040-X takes 16+ weeks to process
- Back taxes owed: Refunds may be offset for past-due taxes, child support, or federal debts
