About My Tax Service

My Tax Service is an independent, informational website about US federal income tax for households, gig workers and people going through life changes. It explains common situations in plain language and highlights free help that is available to many taxpayers.

The site does not prepare, review or file tax returns, does not represent taxpayers before the IRS, and is not a government service. Earlier versions of this site described a tax-preparation practice with credentials and a phone line; those descriptions have been removed because they did not reflect an operating business.

Always confirm rules that affect you with official guidance at irs.gov, a free volunteer program such as VITA or TCE, or a qualified tax professional.
